Digital Processing: | The sketch was done in the field and scanned for this e-mail with no processing. |
Comments: | Transparency varied over the week from 2/6 to 4/6. I was never able to confirm seeing Vesta with the unaided eye although it was easy in the binoculars. It appeared to have a yellowish glow warmer than the stars near it and the quality of the light did not appear intense like the nearby stars. It appeared as bright or slightly brighter than the three HIP stars labeled in the sketch. Vesta did not appear as bright in the 17 June observation as it did in the earlier observations (transparency was 4/6).
Thanks for letting folks know about the AOP--I've tried to spread the word on Cloudy Nights, the astronomy forum that I participate in. This has been fun and I hope to do some more observations. |
